Shell Fish Information for Assateague Island Assateague Island State Park and National Seashore
WHAT ARE SHELLFISH?
The term "shellfish" refers to all mollusks and crustaceans some of which are very tasty. This brochure focuses on those easy to catch around the Maryland portion of Assateague, including the quahog (hard shell) Clam, ribbed mussel, and blue crab. With a little time and effort you can enjoy a smorgasbord of edible shellfish from Assateague's unpolluted bay waters. Ask about present "catching" conditions, ranger-led demonstrations. And recipes at the Barrier island Visitor Center.
