A continuing source of funds comes from members of the community who
have joined Habitat's "Carpenter's Club". The Carpenter's Club
is seeking 2300 members who will support the mission of Habitat by investing
some of their personal resources in their community. Their goal is to
improve the living conditions of the hundreds of families in
Worcester County who are living in substandard, often unsafe conditions
and cannot afford a suitable place to raise their children without the
opportunity Habitat provides.
Following an initial membership fee of $20, each member pledges an
additional $35 each time Habitat completes a home (maximum of four homes
per calendar year, $140, currently averaging one every 9 to 12
months.)
Why 2300 members?
We estimate the material cost of each Habitat home to be $80,000. 2300 Carpenter's Club members investing $35 each time a home is completed will finance the construction of the next home. Carpenter's Club members are encouraged, but not required, to invest some personal time in Habitat as well. We ask that our friends join us "with a check in one hand and a hammer in the other." If each member invests eight hours each year in construction labor, the total of 18,400 (nine man years) would build nine homes.
What are the benefits of membership?
Carpenter's Club members receive:
- A membership certificate
- Newsletter
- A bumper sticker
- A Habitat tee-shirt
- A Habitat gold hammer lapel pin
- An annual report, and most important...
- The joy of making decent shelter available to partner families and
home to thousands of others
