Cinema by the Canal continues its summer series of outdoor film screenings for all ages with “The Muppets” (2011) on Wednesday, July 25 at the Lewes Canalfront Park. The three-part series is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Friends of Canalfront Park, and Citizens Bank.
Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary, learn that greedy oilman Tex Richman wants to raze the Muppet Theater so he can drill for the oil underneath. The only way to save the theater is to raise $10 million. With a great plan to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon, Walter and friends set out to reunite the Muppets, who went their separate ways years ago.
Depressed Kermit the Frog now lives in his own mansion in Hollywood. The Great Gonzo is a high class plumber at Gonzo's Royal Flush. Fozzie Bear performs with a tribute band called The Moopets. Miss Piggy is the plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, and Animal is at a celebrity anger management rehab center in Santa Barbara. Can these characters reunite and put on the best performance ever to save Muppet Theater? [2011, USA, Runtime: 102 min, Rated PG].
The first Muppets theatrical release in 12 years, this musical hit features everyone’s favorite Muppet characters, along with film and television star Jason Segel (“How I Met Your Mother,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), Oscar nominee Amy Adams (“Enchanted,” “Doubt”) and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation”). The Washington Post calls it a “delightful family film” that will “make sure that everyone—and I mean everyone—is happy.” A Kids Choice Awards nominee for Favorite Movie, “The Muppets” also won this year’s Academy Award for Best Song (“Man or Muppet”).
The film will begin at dusk (8:15 - 8:30 pm) at Canalfront Park located at 211 Front Street in Lewes. Admission is free. Please bring chairs or blankets and insect repellent and come enjoy a unique and fun family outdoor film experience. For more information, please visit www.rehobothfilm.com.
The mission of the RBFS is to promote the art of film and, through outreach initiatives, to entertain, educate, and enrich the cultural life of local and extended communities. The Film Society sponsors monthly screenings, special events, and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (November 7-11, 2012). The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information on this series, other events, or to become a member, visit the Rehoboth Beach Film Society website at www.rehobothfilm.com, or call 645-9095.
