Cinema by the Canal features outdoor film screenings for all ages. The three-part series is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Friends of Canalfront Park, and Citizens Bank. In this comedy, big-hearted Chicago family man Chet Ripley (John Candy) has brought his family to a Wisconsin lakeside resort, and although his wife and kids aren't quite as excited as he is, Chet has high hopes for the vacation. Then the unexpected happens when know-it-all brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) shows up with his wife and twin daughters. Can one carefree family co-habitat with obnoxious relatives and salvage their vacation or will their threshold of patience run out? What is Roman’s ulterior motive for crashing the Ripley’s vacation and when will it be revealed? Annette Bening made her film debut as Aykroyd's ill-tempered wife.
