09/05/2012Rehoboth Beach Film Society's Around the World series presents “Hospitalité”
For immediate release: August 8, 2012 For more information, please contact: Greg Jones Education/Outreach Coordinator Rehoboth Beach Film Society 107 Truitt Ave. Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 302-645-9095, ext 2 outreach@rehobothfilm.com The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway announce the first screening in its 2012-2013 monthly series of critically acclaimed, international independent films. The Around the World series will kick off with the award-winning Japanese comedy “Hospitalité” on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 pm in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway. Admission to this film series is free and open to the public. Winner of the Best Independent Debut Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival, “Hospitalité” is a “gleeful farce,” according to “Variety” magazine, that creates “a marvelous tension between a prim comedy of manners and unbridled slapstick.” The comic film follows Mikio Kobayashi, who lives quietly with his wife, daughter, and divorced sister in downtown Tokyo, where the only recent excitement is the disappearance of a pet parrot. But one day Kagawa appears, claiming to be the son of a financier who once helped Kobayashi’s company. In return for his family’s past help, Kagawa requests to move in, and Kobayashi’s quiet lifestyle is quickly forgotten when Kagawa invites his Brazilian (or is she Bosnian?) wife and a myriad of eclectic and foreign visitors to join him in the cramped apartment. The Kobayashis are comically tossed about in confusion as Kagawa and his associates run amuck in their home. Kagawa, with the help of his visitors, manages to reveal old secrets and stir up the monotony of Mikio’s former life with affairs, blackmail, and rampant youthful partying [2010, Japanese with English subtitles, Runtime: 95 min, Not rated]. For more information, please contact the Rehoboth Beach Film Society website at www.rehobothfilm.com, call the Film Society at 302-645-9095, ext. 1, or call the Lewes Public Library at 302-645-2733. The mission of the RBFS is to promote the art of film and, through outreach initiatives, to entertain, educate, and enrich the cultural life of local and extended communities. The Film Society sponsors monthly screenings, special events, and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (November 7-11, 2012). The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. 09/12/2012Rehoboth Beach Film Society Introduces
For immediate release: Aug. 8, 2012 For more information, please contact: Greg Jones Education/Outreach Coordinator Rehoboth Beach Film Society 107 Truitt Ave. Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 302-645-9095, ext 2 outreach@rehobothfilm.com The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Beach Public Library invite film enthusiasts to join the latest twist on the book club idea. Each month, “Read a Movie” club members will read a little-known short story that provided the basis for a very well-known film. Then, on the second Wednesday of every month, the club will meet at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library to screen the film and share thoughts about how well—or not so well—the story was expanded to the big screen. The first meeting of “Read a Movie” will take place 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 12. Members need to read, in advance, the short story “It Had to Be Murder” by Cornell Woolrich. The classic thriller Rear Window (1954) directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Grace Kelly will be screened and discussed in comparison to the story. For more information and to sign up for the club, email Greg Jones at outreach@rehobothfilm.com or call the Rehoboth Beach Public Library at (302) 227-8044. Membership is free. The first ten members to sign up will be entered in a raffle to win a classic book/movie combo pack. Future short story/movie combinations coming later in the fall include: Daphne du Maurier’s ghostly “Don’t Look Now” and the notorious film version starring Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland; the delicious “Babette’s Feast,” based on the classic story by Isak Dinesen; and the holiday perennial It’s a Wonderful Life, accompanied by its original story inspiration, “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern.
