Cinema by the Canal kicks off the summer schedule with a screening of “The Great Outdoors” on Wednesday, June 27 at the Lewes Canalfront Park. Cinema by the Canal features outdoor film screenings for all ages. The three-part series is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Friends of Canalfront Park, and Citizens Bank.
In this comedy, big-hearted Chicago family man Chet Ripley (John Candy) has brought his family to a Wisconsin lakeside resort, and although his wife and kids aren't quite as excited as he is, Chet has high hopes for the vacation. Then the unexpected happens when know-it-all brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) shows up with his wife and twin daughters. Can one carefree family co-habitat with obnoxious relatives and salvage their vacation or will their threshold of patience run out? What is Roman’s ulterior motive for crashing the Ripley’s vacation and when will it be revealed? Annette Bening made her film debut as Aykroyd's ill-tempered wife. [1988, USA, Runtime: 91 min, Rated PG]
The film will begin at dusk (8:15 - 8:30 pm) at Canalfront Park located at 211 Front Street in Lewes. Admission is free. Please bring chairs or blankets, and insect repellent. Come enjoy a unique and fun, family outdoor film experience. For more information, please visit www.rehobothfilm.com.

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will be conducting Festival Film Review sessions during the summer months at two locations, Movies at Midway in Rehoboth and South Coastal Public Library in Bethany.
The Festival Film Review sessions, open to the public, are used to assist with the film selection process for the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (November 7 -11, 2012). Each session will include the screening of a documentary or a feature and a short, time permitting. Reviewers are asked to complete a rating form and may also join in the post film discussion. Festival Program Director Joe Bilancio will facilitate the reviews so you will be sure to enjoy stimulating discussions about what factors determine a film’s suitability for a Festival.
Please remember that screener copies of films are provided as a courtesy to the Film Society for the specific purpose of reviewing for consideration as a festival entry. These copies may be of lesser technical quality and are not designed to be projected on the big screen. Despite these circumstances, review sessions provide a unique opportunity for film enthusiasts to see a broad scope of films from emerging directors.
Festival Film Reviews will take place June 18, 25, July 2, 9, and 16 at the South Coastal Library in Bethany. In Rehoboth, the Festival Film Reviews will take place June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, August 7 and 14 in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway. Film screenings will begin at 7:00 pm. Admission is $2.00 at Rehoboth and free at the Bethany location.
