JENNIFER E. CARTER Artist ~ Bethany Treasures
Watercolor, Oil, And Pastel ~ Photography Limited Edition Prints And Notecards |
Jennifer E. Carter Jennifer has been "learning to look" since she was a child. She enjoys the challenges of traditional transparent watercolor as well as pastel and oil. She is fascinated by the play of light and shadows that define forms, and the color interaction that results. Jennifer has taught art on the high school level since 1980. Currently, she teaches at Gonzaga College High School in downtown Washington, DC. Jennifer offers private lessons, teaches workshops at the Rehoboth Art League (RAL) in Rehoboth Beach, DE, and in the Adult Plus and Elderhostel Programs at Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown, DE. She has also taught studio art and graduate courses at Trinity College in Washington, DC. Jennifer has served repeatedly as Judge and Chief Judge for the for the Drawing and Painting portions of the ACT-SO competition in Washington, DC. Two recent ventures to Italy still inspire creations. Again, in June, Jennifer will participate in Gonzaga's service project at Red Cloud Indian School on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. With the help of some Lakota friends there, Jennifer is learning some of the Lakota language before her fourth trip this summer. She enjoys photographing and painting the exciting atmosphere of dramatic light and color of the Lakota lands. Italy, Delaware shore scenes, lighthouses, pond fish, marsh views, and her garden are favorite subjects for her paintings. Jennifer welcomes commissions of any subject. During college, Greece was her home base. She flew six round trips for long holiday and summer visits. Jennifer has traveled extensively through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy as a professional singer on concert tours. She performs classical and pop/jazz/big band music. She is a member of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce. |
"I See the Water Tower" The Bethany Beach Water Tower was sold, dismantled, and taken away in October, 1994. Matted and/or framed size 16 x 20" I first arrived in Bethany at ten months old - a month after returning from Japan where I was born. For many years we vacationed in Bethany renting various non-air-conditioned, no-phone, no-two-forks-alike houses. What great memories! My family used to play a game of who could see the water tower first as we drove into Bethany on Route 26. We knew we were at the beach on vacation when we saw the landmark water tower with the friendly crooked writing. Even driving into Bethany as an adult, I delighted in seeing the water tower. There's an empty spot where my old friend used to be. | |
